Bernard O’Kane, Professor of Islamic Art and Archtiecture, has given lectures at the following conferences:

  • March 2015 – Against Gravity Conference at University of Pennsylvania, “From Workshop to Architecture: How Were Tiles Placed Correctly?”
  • April 2015 – Society of Architectural Historians Annual Meeting, Chicago, “Mughal Tilework: Sultanate or Persianate”
  • April 2015 – Lawrence University of Kansas, Franklin D. Murphy Lecture, “The Writing on the Walls: The Importance of Epigraphy in Medieval Cairo”
  • May 2015 – Zahedan, Iran: Conference on the Representation of the Prophet Muhammad in Art, “The Prophet Muhammad’s Name in Architectural Inscriptions”
  • Professor O’Kane also received the Society of Architectural Historians Senior Scholarship award, which covered partial travel funds for the conference.
