DR. PATRICK MASON, Assistant Professor, Department of History, published an article, “The Prohibition of Interracial Marriage in Utah, 1888-1963,” Utah Historical Quarterly vol. 76 no. 2 (Spring 2008): 108-31.

DR. RASHA ABDULLA, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication, recorded another two episodes of the daily program “Qara’at lak” (I read for you), which airs daily on channel 1 before the 9 pm news.  The program is part of the reading campaign of H.E. Mrs Suzanne Mubarak.  Dr. Abdulla presented Spencer Johnson’s best seller, “Who Moved My Cheese?” as well as a book on public speaking skills.

AMANDA FIELDS, Writing Instructor in the Department of Rhetoric and Composition, was accepted to the VCCA summer writing residency at Moulin a Nef in Auvillar, France.

GRETCHEN McCULLOUGH, Writing Instructor in the Department of Rhetoric and Composition, gave a reading from her Syrian essays and Egyptian short stories on April 22 at the residence of Dr. Evelyn Early, Counselor for Public Affairs, in Rabat, Morocco. Moroccan professors and writers attended.  McCullough was interviewed by SNRT English radio in Rabat.  She also gave an interview in Arabic at Radio Aswat in Casablanca.

On April 24 McCullough led a creative writing workshop for Moroccan high school students and teachers at the “Book Caravan Conference” in Skoura.

ELENI MARTSOUKOU, Yale Law School Fellow at the Law Department of AUC, published an article entitled, “Data Protection Crisis in Greece”, in PRIVACY LAWS & BUSINESS INTERNATIONAL, Issue 92, April 2008.

Professor MAKI K. HABIB, Mechanical Engineering Department, published the following two papers in international journals:

- GUANG LEI LIU, MAKI K.HABIB, KEIGO WATANABE, KIYOTAKA IZUMI, “Central Pattern Generators Based on Matsuoka Oscillators for the Locomotion of Biped Robots,” Journal Artificial Life and Robotics, Springer Publisher, Vol. 12, No.1-2, 2008, pp. 264-269.

DR. MONA M. AMER, Assistant Professor of Psychology, Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology and Egyptology, was invited by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to consult and present workshops at a two-day Summit on Arab American and American Muslim youth.  The Summit, held in Dearborn, Michigan, invited approximately 200 expert researchers, academicians, clinicians, community organizers, family representatives and youth representatives aimed at promoting the social and emotional well-being of these youths.  The summit was successful in setting a research agenda and identifing priorities for community-based programs and federal grant funding.

WILLIAM D. MELANEY, Associate Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literature, is publishing the article, “Hume’s Secular Paradigm: Skepticism and Historical Knowledge,” in History of Philosophy Quarterly 25: 3, pp. 243-257.  The article is scheduled to appear in July 2008.
