The AUC folklore troupe, accompanied by the AUCeyat music group, performed their first concert of the semester last week.

Ahmed Abdel Hady, president of the AUCeyat music group said, “the concert exceeded our expectations.” Abdel Hady, who is also a dancer in the group which has represented Egypt in international cultural festivals, said that the audience turnout was quite good, considering the current security situation and the fact that many people do not stay out late.

Donia Mazen, communication and media arts junior said , “the concert was very interesting and I did not expect I would enjoy it that much.”

Members of both groups travelled to France for a 21-day tour in July 2010, performing in eight cities. They were invited to different folklore festivals in France, alongside groups from other countries such as Russia, Spain, China, Peru and Colombia.

“It was an amazing experience especially because we were performing for a completely different culture than ours,” said art senior Mostapha Al Qammar, a musician of the AUCeyat group.

The two groups’ upcoming concert is on April 10 in Ewart Hall, and they are expected to perform on international day April 5.
