Khaled Samaha describes the conference as follows: “The EAA is a major event that takes place in a different European country each year. This conference is considered the second most important conference in the Accounting field after the American Accounting Association Conference (AAA). The purpose of the congress is to advance accounting knowledge. The EAA aims to link Europe to the outside community of accounting scholars and researchers, to provide a platform for the wider dissemination of European accounting research, and to foster and improve research. Since its establishment in 1977, the EAA has had a major impact on the accounting research community throughout and outside Europe. The EAA has established a secure and developing series of networks that bring together all accounting researchers from all over the world. The EAA Annual Congress offers a unique opportunity for presenting research and finding out what colleagues in the field of accounting are doing. Every year over 1100 delegates attend this popular event and close to 700 papers are presented in parallel sessions and research forums. In addition, the EAA Annual Congress provides a friendly and sociable context in which to meet colleagues from other countries, to formulate joint research projects, and generally to keep in touch with European trends in education and research.”
