Khaled Fahmy, Professor of History and Chair of the Department, has the following news to share:
Ahram Online has reached an agreement to translate into English the weekly Arabic articles that Khaled been publishing in Al-Shorouk for the past seven weeks. The first to appear is THIS ONE on the absence of liberal arts education from Egyptian Universities.
Khaled will also be debating Mohammed Salmawy in the New Arab Debates hosted by Tim Sebastian on Wednesday, October 31, at 6:30 PM, in al-Azhar Conference Center. The motion is: “This house believes that democracy has had a disappointing start in Egypt.” Salmawy will argue for the motion, and Khaled will be arguing against.

Khaled Fahmy, Professor of History and Chair of the Department, appeared with Hafez al-Mirazi on his weekly TV show, “Bi-Tawqit al-Qahira (Cairo Time)” on Dream TV on October 5 (the eve of the 39th anniversary of the October War). The topic of discussion was whether or not the new Egyptian constitution should keep the current clause about mandatory military service. The show can be watched by clicking HERE.
