Fayza Haikal, Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Egyptology (SAPE) translated a short text of Rudyard Kipling into Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs for the museum in stone to be inaugurated in the town of Felicity, California. Fayza Haikal, Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Egyptology (SAPE), was interviewed for approximately 3 hours on September 1 by the French Nile TV International program “Women From Egypt,” presenting career women to the world. Due to the great length of the interview, it was cut into 2 segments. It will reportedly be aired on Friday, September 14 and Friday, September 21, at 6:00 PM on both days.

Fayza Haikal, Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Egyptology (SAPE) gave the opening plenary lecture at the Annual  German Speakers’ Egyptological conference held in Berlin from July 13-15. The lecture was entitled “Reflections on turning points.” Reports have reached the Bulletin that the lecture was attended by almost 400 Egyptologists and was followed by a standing ovation.

Fayza Haikal, Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Egyptology (SAPE) served on July 7 as the examiner for a Ph.D. dissertation she was co-supervising for the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University. The thesis presented 275 wooden stelae from Thebes dating to Dynasty 21-26, scattered through museums across the world. It fine-tuned the typology of the stelae and in some cases their dating, and revisited their role in funerary religion through their iconography and the texts they presented.

Fayza Haikal, Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Egyptology (SAPE) has been invited to deliver the keynote lecture at the annual Egyptological conference of German-speaking archeologists, to be held in Berlin from July 13-15, 2012. The theme of the conference this year is on “Turning points.” Fayza has also been invited to stay longer in order to visit Berlin’s museums and Egyptological institutions and to meet with colleagues.

Today, May 13, was a special honor for Fayza Haikal, Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Egyptology (SAPE). Fayza was presented with the badge of Cairo University’s Faculty of Archeology at the university’s commencement ceremony. During the ceremony, a number of personalities who rendered specific services to the faculty were honored. The homage was presented to Fayza in her capacity s first head of the Syndicate of Archeologists, in recognition of the work she did to bring this long-awaited syndicate to life. The dossier of the syndicate is now in parliament, awaiting official accreditation.
